To those of us in the antiques trade the word vintage might conjure up images of a 1930’s speakeasy membership card (“knock three times and ask for Joe”), an engraved silver flask belonging to a character of (what we imagine) rather dubious notoriety, perhaps a faded photograph of a more faded lady (think Blanche Dubois) but to the more normal among us vintage means WINE.
Wine has been around for quite a few thousand years. The process of growing and fermenting the fruit of the vine has changed little over the centuries and even though Dom Perignon attempted to remove the bubbles from champagne we’re really glad he didn’t!
Wine has it’s own vocabulary and rituals. A nose is not a nose, a hint is not a clue and a note is not something written – Whether one is sipping a 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild from a 1920’s Lalique stem or enjoying a crisp Sauvignon Blanc poured from a 1950’s Russell Wright carafe the mood remains the same. So pull a cork, swirl it, take a sip and have a look at some of the unique wine accessories available at West End Antiques!
